Thursday

No adventure in getting home from the airport last night. Kept on M79 to Kyneton and then the usual route back to Cobaw.

A bit of drama with the washing machine, but it turned out, of course, to be a total pilot error. The door wasn’t complete closed, but because of the design which looks great, we were looking at the hinge side instead of the opening side. Seeing it tight, we were sure it was closed. Only when Shelly looked at the opening side did she see it was ajar. Once closed the “open door” and “start” buttons worked. Sometimes it’s the simplest things…

We put Morris out when we got home and he attended to the tasks needed, then came right in. However, when we woke up around 7.00 this morning, we found he had made a puddle in the main hallway. We’ll either need to leave him out a bit longer, or check in with him when I get up in the middle of the night until we get the routine down.

The morning was really blustery, with a temperature around 6 degrees, misty, damp and windy. The sheep did not want to go out. Took a bit of arm waving to get them with the program. If it doesn’t warm up much today, they will come in a bit early, maybe 4.00 pm.

There was only one egg today, from #2, same as yesterday. There was also an egg from #5, which means the lone rebel is a hen. Jamie saw here for a moment, but when I got there to help catch her, she was completely hidden: no sight, no sound. I closed the door to the catching pen and the other pen to keep her from the food. On Saturday, I’ll throw out some wheat to draw her out and into the catching pen. Stay tuned for news…

Too cold and wet to slash; maybe tomorrow. Collected a trailer of firewood from the pens pile so I didn’t feel completely useless. Hehe.

We ran the boiler for a couple of hours last night and again this morning. No excitement, just quiet warmth. The electric blankets were a treat last night and we slept the sleep of the peaceful and tired.

Here’s hoping for more eggs, and a bit warmer and dryer day tomorrow.
